Ingredients

  • 2 large onions (cut into rings)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)

  • ½ cup cornflour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • Salt to taste

  • ½ tsp black pepper powder

  • 1 tsp red chili powder (optional for spice)

  • 1 cup chilled water (adjust as needed)

  • Bread crumbs (for coating)

  • Oil (for deep frying)

 Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onions:
Peel and slice the onions into ½-inch thick rings. Gently separate each layer into individual rings.

  2. Make the Batter:
In a mixing bowl, combine maida, cornflour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and chili powder. Gradually add chilled water to make a smooth, slightly thick batter.

  3. Coat the Rings:
Dip each onion ring into the batter, then roll it in bread crumbs for an extra crispy texture.

  4. Heat the Oil:
Heat oil in a deep pan on medium flame. Check if it’s ready by dropping a small bit of batter — if it sizzles and rises, the oil is hot enough.

  5. Fry the Onion Rings:
Drop the coated rings gently into the oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

  6. Serve Hot:
Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve with ketchup, mayo, or cheese dip!

 Tips for Perfect Onion Rings

  • Always use chilled water for the batter — it helps make the coating airy and crisp.

  • You can add a pinch of turmeric or paprika for extra color.

  • For a healthier version, you can air fry or bake them at 200°C for 12–15 minutes.

  •  Serving Suggestion

Serve these onion rings hot with your favorite sauces — spicy mayo, cheese dip, or classic tomato ketchup. They’re perfect for snacks, parties, or even as a crunchy burger side!
